About Kilkee Sub Aqua Club

ORIGINS: Kilkee Sub Aqua club was founded in 1982 to promote scuba diving and snorkelling in the West Clare area. The club has around 60 members and is a member club of Diving Ireland - the regulatory body for sports diving in Ireland with about 80 member clubs both North and South. The international regulatory body KSAC is affiliated to is CMAS (Confederation Mondiale des Activities Subaquatique).
ACTIVITIES: The club engages in snorkelling and diving, taking part in specialist training courses in-club and with other clubs, providing a platform for snorkel and dive outings for members and visitors during the season. It also operates its own Search & Recovery unit, assisting the other emergency services when required and working with other clubs in the region when people are missing at sea. The club operates on a voluntary non-profit-making basis. The club has its own clubhouse, based in Kikee, and a RIB (rigid inflatable boat). It is currently fundraising to build a new Regional Dive Centre in recognition of Kilkee's array of impressive, easily accessible snorkel and dive sites.
SCHEDULE: The club is most active between March and October when it engages in snorkeling and diving, mostly around the Kilkee area where there are multiple diving sites that are, with the right weather conditions, easily accessible. Kilkee is one of the busiest sites in Ireland for water activities because of the range of beautiful sites available.
During the off season, between November and March, the club begins its training programme for new members at the pool in Shannon Leisure Centre. Trained members engage in swimming activities and practise essential water skills.
